Project Weekly Update - Special Update (July 10th thru 15th)

Beginning at approximately 7 PM on July 14th and extending into the early evening of July 15th, Gambrell Drive will be closed to traffic at Clifton Road up to the speed table near the North Decatur Building. On the evening of July 14th milling operations will take place.  Early on the morning of the 15th crews will begin paving the road.  This work will be complete by early evening. Lowergate South Parking Deck will be accessible at all times while this work is underway.  Vehicles will enter via the surface parking lot behind Gambrell Hall.  Vehicles will exit the parking deck onto Healthgate Drive at the exit at the lowest level of the parking deck.  Please see the attached traffic plan.  This work is weather dependent.  In the event of rain it will be postponed to the following weekend.

Project Weekly Update - April 17th - 22nd

April 17th thru 22rd, 2017

  • The major focus this week has been on planning for the full depth asphalt replacement/repair along sections of Gambrell Drive this Saturday April 22nd.  Work will start at 8 AM.  Please see the attached logistics plans (Morning and Afternoon) for details regarding where the work will be taking place.  Initially Gambrell Drive will be closed between Healthgate Drive (at the North Decatur Building) to the far end of the parking decks.  Access to Lowergate South Parking deck will be via Clifton Road and Gambrell Drive. Following the completion of roadway repairs adjacent to the parking decks, this section of roadway will be reopened and Gambrell Drive will then be closed from Clifton Road up to MacMillan Law Library.  While this work is underway access into and out of Lowergate South Parking Deck will be via Ridgewood Drive.  Paving will also be occurring on Healthgate Drive on Saturday.  However, Healthgate Drive will remain closed to traffic pending the activation of the new traffic signals.  We are optimistic that this will occur by the end of April.
  • Traffic signal crews have begun installing new detection loops for the traffic signals on Clifton Road.  
  • Irrigation crews have also continued working to test, repair and complete the installation of new systems in an effort to stay ahead of the warmer than normal weather.  
  • Finally, on Saturday and Sunday (weather pending) work will resume on the slurry blasting at the 4 concrete intersections on Clifton Road.  This work will begin around 8:00AM on Saturday at Lowergate Drive and will continue over the weekend.  

Next Week
April 23th thru 28th, 2017

  • Next week the irrigation repairs, general clean up, landscape repairs and continued work at Healthgate Drive will continue.  
  • We will also begin installing sod throughout the Clifton corridor so that restoration efforts to turf areas impacted by the project will be complete by Commencement. 

Important Items to Note

  • Saturday, 4/22 MORNING
    Gambrell Drive will be closed from Healthgate Drive to the far end of the parking Decks (Lowergate and Lowergate South).  Access will be available to Lowergate South Parking Deck via Clifton Road to Gambrell Drive.  Refer to the attachment for directions.
  • Saturday, 4/22 AFTERNOON
    Gambrell Drive will be closed from the MacMillan Law Library to Clifton Road.  Access will be available to Lowergate South Parking Deck via Gambrell Drive from Uppergate or Ridgewood Drive.  Refer to the attachment for directions.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Clifton Road, March 3-6

Work continues on the Clifton Streetscape project. This weekend the intersection of Clifton Road and Lowergate Drive will be replaced resulting in traffic disruption on Clifton Road.

Starting the evening of Friday, March 3 after 8:00 p.m. and continuing over the weekend through Monday morning, March 6 at 5:00 a.m., Clifton Road will be closed between Gambrell Drive and Uppergate Drive.  In addition, Lowergate Drive will be closed during this timeframe.

  • Vehicles will be rerouted via detour signs to avoid the work zone, and personnel will be on site directing traffic.
  • The sidewalk on the west side of Clifton Road (the Emory University Hospital side) will remain open to pedestrians.   
  • Bus service will continue on Clifton Road, but will be diverted around the work zone; stop and route changes are at http://emory.transloc.com/.
  • Emergency access to the Emergency Departments (ED) of both Emory Healthcare and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta will remain open, but access to the Emory University Hospital ED will be provided from a special drop-off area by the ambulance ramp with staff transport into the ED.

TRAFFIC ALERT: Clifton Road, Feb. 24-26

Work continues on the new Emory University Hospital bed tower project. This weekend, the old hospital bridge over Clifton Road will be demolished and removed, resulting in traffic disruption on Clifton Road.

Starting the evening of Friday, February 24 at approximately 8 p.m. and continuing over the weekend through Sunday, February 26 at 6 p.m., Clifton Road will be closed between Gambrell Drive and Uppergate Drive.

  • Vehicles will be rerouted via detour signs to avoid the work zone, and police officers will be directing traffic.
  • Pedestrian access will be very limited.
  • Bus service will continue on Clifton Road, but will be diverted around the work zone; stop and route changes are at emory.transloc.com.
  • Emergency access to the ED of both Emory Healthcare and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta will remain open, but access to the EUH ED will be provided from a special drop-off area by the ambulance ramp and staff transport into the ED.
