(June 20th - June 24th, 2016)
The Phase 1 worksite near WHSCAB is fenced off and a temporary sidewalk and lights have been put into service. Two fire hydrants have been relocated and work to demolish a section of the existing sidewalk and concrete apron are underway. Crews will extend the temporary sidewalk and construction fencing toward Eagle Row. Then they will demo the sidewalk inside this construction area. Periodic lane closures have taken place on Clifton Road at off peak travel times. No night work is anticipated this week.
The contractor is using a specialized piece of equipment to excavate where utilities are required to be relocated or where new light poles will be installed. This method is termed Hydro Vac and it uses water and a vacuum system to remove soil while avoiding damage to underground utilities that might be encountered. This type of excavation will be used extensively on the project given the variety and number of underground utilities that are in place up and down Clifton Road.
As a gentle reminder please follow the wayfinding signage that is in place and avoid walking in the street or trying to enter the construction sites.
Next Week (June 27th - July 1st, 2016)
Demolition of the sidewalks will continue north near towards Eagle Row. It will stop short of the crosswalk ramp so that pedestrian access is preserved at this intersection. The first section of new curb and gutter will be poured around mid-week. No night work will take place during this week.
Important Items/Changes to Note
Please note that the MARTA and Emory bus stop adjacent to WHSCAB will remain closed until this phase of the project is completed. We ask that pedestrians please take note of the wayfinding signage in place which guides you around the construction site. Lights have also been installed to illuminate the sidewalk at night. Night time work will start on or around July 7th.
