Current Week (July 18th thru July 23th, 2016)
- Work continues to construct the sidewalk adjacent to WHSCAB, and a temporary asphalt sidewalk was completed near the Business School and Schwartz Center. This sidewalk will be used to divert pedestrians around the construction site of the right turn lane portion of the project which will begin next week. Other work taking place this week includes adding to the storm line near EUH. Work crews from MARTA are on site installing a new power feed to the bus shelter just north of Woodruff Circle. DeKalb County has a crew that will remove cabling from the Georgia Power utility poles on the east side of Clifton Road. Work will also take place adjacent to Harris Hall to construct a new sidewalk this weekend. Crews will stage on Fishburne drive to avoid impact/conflicts with the crews working to install the pedestrian bridge on Clifton Road.
Next Week (July 24th thru July 30th, 2016)
- The sidewalk in front of Harris hall will be completed on Sunday. Next week crews will also complete the sidewalks and concrete aprons near WHSCAB. Grading work will begin for the right turn lane element of the project. This is at the intersection of Clifton road and North Decatur Road. This is in support of the grading operations that are required on the west side of Clifton Road associated with the new retaining wall, sidewalk and dedicated turn lane.
Important Items/Changes to Note
- Please note pedestrians will begin to use the temporary sidewalk that will route them around the construction site for the dedicated right turn lane next week. This is an asphalt path similar to what was constructed adjacent to WHSCAB. This path is lighted at night for pedestrian safety.
- Starting Friday night and continuing into the weekend, Clifton Road will be closed from Gambrell Drive to Uppergate Drive to all, with the exception of emergency vehicles. Anticipate there will be significant impact to the traffic in the area as there will be construction workers placing the steel framework for the bridge from EUH to the J Wing project into position. If you have to drive in this vicinity, please slow down and watch your surroundings.
