September 6th thru September 10th, 2016
As a result of the shortened holiday work week, the crews focused on work in support of the upcoming paving which starts Friday night (9/9) and extends into Saturday (9/10).
Significant work has been completed in support of the right turn lane element of the project. This includes the new curb and gutter and the stone base course. Additionally they have set a new pole that is needed to support the traffic signals.
On the Gambrell Hall side of Clifton Road, crews are working to demolish the existing curb and gutter, install new light pole bases, continuing grading for the new sidewalk and placing the stone base course for widening the road.
Traffic Note for Friday, Sept. 9th: Please note and review the diagram of how traffic will be directed beginning between 7:00 – 8:00 PM tonight. Paving will take place tonight and into late tomorrow afternoon. Please note that although the right turn lane will be paved this weekend, it will not be available for use for some time as we still need to complete the sidewalk and coordinate with DeKalb County on the traffic signalization of N Decatur Road.
September 12 thru September 16th , 2016
Next week work will continue with respect to grading near Gambrell Hall and concrete will be placed for the new sidewalk.
Work will also take place next Friday night to demolish theconcrete corner at Gambrell Drive and Clifton Road (School of Law side) and then replace it in the proper orientation.
This process has worked well elsewhere on the project. Working overnight we avoid disruption to pedestrian traffic and the area is back in service by late Saturday afternoon.
Traffic signal reconfiguration will begin at the N Decatur Intersection and will take several weeks to complete.
Lastly, we will be starting excavation to extend the storm sewer system and install a new catch basin in front of Clinic A.
